Meet the team: Ken’s got a flair for finance
We’d like to introduce our financial controller, Ken Sear, who’s been with Precision FM for nearly five years.
Ken has worked in finance for a range of firms for many years, and it was on the strength of this consistent legacy that he came to work for Precision FM where he works across numerous essential finance areas.
Diverse and dedicated
When it comes to finance, Ken is an expert who can make short work of anything from business banking, accounts, and VAT to tax and ledgers.
His ability to be diverse helps him keep abreast of the often-changing world of finance since he’s never far away from any of the company’s pecuniary considerations.
A typical day for Ken begins by checking that the company’s finances are routed through the system as expected, such as ensuring employees have been paid, overhead bills are sorted, and any incoming money from customers is correct.
He’ll move on to further administration by answering finance-related correspondence and noting matters requiring the entire management team’s attention at the weekly conference.
“There’s always something to do on the numerous software we have for accounting”, says Ken, “and I’ll be keeping an eye on on-diary events and projects that require my input.
“There’s also the important task of corresponding with our customers’ accounts payable teams too to ensure payment is received in accordance with our invoice terms.”

Building relationships
Despite being mostly ‘back-office,’ Ken knows he’s still integral to the customer experience. He’s keen to underpin how the customer benefits from his department’s efficient work:
“I might not see the customer very often, but without the work we do in the finance department, it wouldn’t be long before they’d make themselves known. An integral part of my responsibility as a financial controller is to establish a good relationship with customers’ finance teams so that we can ensure everything goes well for them.
“That relationship-building process is a two-pronged approach. I need to be there to speak with the customer about any matters of concern, but I also must ensure that we’re simply doing our job right and make an effort to fit in with the customer’s routine and working practices. Ultimately, if the job is done well, time after time, the customer will develop trust in us.”
Ken’s methodical approach to daily business and relationship maintenance underpins the Precision FM way of getting things done in a helpful, conscientious, and quality-driven manner.
Embracing technology
We should give the best possible service to the customers, believes Ken. He confirms the team is always looking at ways in which Precision FM can do business more efficiently, such as embracing new technology.
“The adoption of new software has seen us streamline and speed up our finance department. We’re entirely software-based now. Digital finance is quicker, safer, and easier for everyone and this focus on technology means we’re primed to jump hurdles like ISO certification easily.
“But whether we’re talking about finance done using the traditional way or in the cloud as it is today, success comes down to delivering what the customer wants and for a competitive price. I’m happy to say we’re always reviewing that at Precision FM, and I’m proud to have my own input on how we can make the company even better.”
Colleagues work together
When our CEO receives a call from a satisfied customer expressing thanks for the way their FM has been handled, he knows it’s the whole team who deserves the praise:
“Couldn’t do it without them,” says Brij Thankey, “and I think anyone at the top of a business knows that without the team, the company wouldn’t thrive. We recruit our colleagues wisely based on their ability to meet customer needs.
“I’d like to thank Ken for his work over the years and encourage everyone to show gratitude to every colleague – whatever their role.”
